2001 SELECTIONS

Ever wonder how a winemaker makes the decisions to blend
different varieties together? This selection will give you the opportunity to
taste the "components" of a blended wine, and gain a little insight into the
complex blending process. Both the Sheldrake Point Cabernet Franc and the Rivendell
Merlot are 100% varietals. The Potato Barn Red is a blend of Cab Franc and Merlot.
OK, its not an exact comparison but, have a little fun, open them all together
and compare the flavors and taste the artistry.
Long Island
A solid red made largely from Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Rich fruit, satisfyingly
weighty in the mouth with herbs and plums and a little bit of chocolate spice.
This is Long Island's signature red blend.
Hudson Valley
Soft and easy, this is a perfect Merlot for everyday. The fresh, vibrant fruit
of Long Island, with just enough toasty oak to make it more interesting.
Finger Lakes
This is a deliciously rich and satisfying, young Cab Franc full of chocolate,
pepper and spice, with a full mouthfeel and finish. A stylish wine from a stylish
new winery.
May is "Finger Lakes Riesling Month". One of the world's
best food wines, Riesling may be the loveliest of all white grapes in the world,
if only because of its longevity, versatility in making a wide range of styles
(from bone dry to dessert sweet) and its uncanny ability to translate the unique
characteristics of the soil in which it is grown. New York's Finger Lakes Region
is unquestionably producing some of the best Riesling in the US. The ideal combination
of cool climate (good for ripening those aromatics!) and shale based soils combine
to create wines with a firm and juicy palate packed with tropical flavors and
a distinct mineral character. Simply, Delicious!
Finger Lakes
Tropical fruits and apricots in the nose, a semi-sweet with great balance, classic
Riesling flavors and an abundance of fruit.
Finger Lakes
A refreshing mouthful of peach, pineapple and honeysuckle. Delicate citrus fruit
flavors dance around followed by a long, lingering pear finish. An abundance
of Riesling character!
Finger Lakes
This traditional semi-dry style has a wonderful aroma of fresh flowers and peaches,
with hints of pear, mango, other tropical fruits in the taste. The finish is
on the dryer side so it complements food very well.
Since ancient times, the lusty Month of May, named for Maya,
Mother Earth, has symbolized the re-awakening of Spring. With this selection
we harken Back to previous page to those times when all manner of fruits other
than grapes were harvested, pressed and fermented into wine. And remember, the
Vintage New York stores in SoHo and New Paltz are celebrating these traditions
with a wide selection of fruit wines during the month long Fruit Wine Faire.
Finger Lakes
Made at the Transfiguration Monastery outside Binghampton by an octogenarian
French Nun whose family has been making wines for generations. Need we say more?
Long Island
Long Island's famous strawberry farms come alive in this spectacular wine with
a nose and flavor that leaps and dances out of the glass.
Finger Lakes
100% pear from the Finger Lakes, but seems juicier and more aromatic that a fresh
pear. Fermented semi-sweet but crisper and not as sweet as most other fruit wines.
