2001 SELECTIONS

Over the course of the year, there are literally dozens of
wine competitions held around the country. There are several, however, that rank
as the most prestigious; Dallas, San Francisco, Florida, San Diego, and, of course,
our own New York Wine & Food Classic. Winning an award at any of these is
cause for bragging rights, but to take a GOLD MEDAL is quite an accomplishment.
These are all GOLD MEDALISTS at one or more contests, and outstanding examples
of the state of New York wine.
Seneca Lake
With a soft entry and moderate tannins the flavors of sweet fruit and chocolate
give this wine a particularly attractive finish.
Long Island
A wonderfully smooth and elegant wine with a rich mouthfeel and gobs of long
lasting fruit. This winery just keeps putting out flavorful and well-priced wines.
Keuka Lake
This classic Merlot shows great ripeness with the aromas of
cherry, blackberry and blueberry and a scent of cigar. Well balanced with moderate
acidity, soft ripe tannins and layers of fruit, it lingers on the palate with
a long pleasant finish.
Cayuga the Lake was created about 3 million years ago by glaciers
carving up the land in what would become upstate New York. Cayuga the Grape was
developed by Cornell in the 1950's and released for commercial plantings in 1982.
A relative newcomer, it is one of the winemaker's favorites because it grows
consistently well and produces a fine high quality wine. Originally used as a
blending grape, it is finding a real niche as a varietal and has become a popular
cocktail wine in its own right, because it appeals to a wide range of tastes.
Finger Lakes
Spicy apple aromas precede green apple and fruit salad flavors. Have it with
fried chicken or barbecued pork.
Finger Lakes
A dry versatile wine that is light on the palate with soft fruit overtones. Serve
with foods such as roast chicken or pasta with light sauces.
Finger Lakes
Crisp and semi-dry with luscious floral and citrusy aromas, this wine is great
with poultry or ham.
The excellent climate of Long Island, which allows for full
ripening of the Cabernet grape has allowed a number of truly excellent Port-style
wines to develop. Close your eyes, and you'll think you're sitting in a cellar
in the Douro in Portugal sipping these fine examples of the world's most celebrated
sweet dessert wines.
Rich, sweet chocolate and cherry flavors fill the mouth and
a little goes a long way. Extraordinary with chocolate. Traditionally served
after dinner with cheese, port makes an excellent appetizer as well.
Long Island
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, this
bright youthful port is rich in ripe plum and black cherry flavors with subtle
oak nuances its full lingering finish.
Long Island
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium bodied, rich ripe plums, sweet and mouthfilling.
