JULY 2003 SELECTIONS

This month we hail the flag with a selections of Reds, Whites and wines in Blue bottles. (Hey, we had to complete the theme!) All of the wines presented here are chosen for their delectable afinity to the foods of summer - be they grilled, tossed or simply raw. And each of these wines are wonderful values in their catagories as well.

 

REDS

Pinot Noir - The ultimate summer red!

2001 Millbrook
HUdson Valley
Nice ruby color showing smoky notes closely followed by black cherry and red currant flavors with hints of cinnamon and baked apple.

2000 Lamoreaux Landing
Seneca Lake
This Pinot has a bright ruby color with cherry and spicy aromas. It's medium-bodied with a lot of berry flavors. Medium tannin will allow it to age well. Try with red meats, tomato dishes and cheeses.

2001 Silver Thread
Seneca Lake
Medium bodied, Beaune-style wine with black raspberry and cherry fruit character, herbal tones, and a patina of oak from aging in American and French barrels. Organic techniques.

 

WHITES

Alternate Selection#1

Seyval Blanc ~ New York's answer to Pinot Grigio!

2002 Glenora
Seneca Lake
Their special aging technique makes this wine a perennial winner. With its rich layers of honey and citrus, it has a pleasing semi - dry finish. Perfect with chicken or pasta with white sauces.

2002 Clinton Vineyards
Hudson Valley
From the Hudson Valley's pre-eminent Seyval producer. This vintage displays the richness of the harvest with crisp, bright flavors comparable to a Macon Chardonnay.

2002 Hosmer
Finger Lakes
From last year's Governor's Cup winner comes this semi-dry wine, with delicate citrus and apple flavors, and a clean and refreshing finish.

 

BLUES

Alternate Selection#2
Each of these wines are delicious warm weather sippers made in an off-dry style and come in a cool blue bottle. Hey, sometimes packaging does make a difference!
   

Rivendell Northern Lights 
Hudson Valley
Residual Sugar 12.5%
Soft, easy-drinking blend of Cayuga and Riesling. Floral and sweet citrus, guava and mango.  

Lucas Blues
Finger Lakes
Bright, crisp, and smooth. This refreshing blend of Seyval and and Cayuga grapes is a perfect example of a versatile white wine. Served with food or by itself, it is a true delight.
 

Warwick Valley Winery Harvest Moon    
Hudson Valley
Cayuga and Vidal blend, soft peach aromas apricot notes semi dry exellent with spicy dishes or just terrific relaxing with friends.
